CHEWY TRAIL MIX FRUIT GEMS dehydrator snack · 10-14 hours drying · tested TESTED 2026-11-03. Made at home and it worked as written. The chewy fruit nuggets from high-end trail mixes, made from canned pears and peaches. Toss with almonds, pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate chips. INGREDIENTS canned diced pears (drained and rinsed; enough to fill the trays; a 15 oz can drains to about 250 g) canned sliced peaches (drained, rinsed, cut in 1/2 inch cubes) ground cinnamon or lemon juice (optional; a pinch or a splash) STEPS Drain 1. Drain the pears and peaches. Cut the peaches into 1/2 inch (1 cm) cubes. Rinse quickly under cold water to wash off the syrup so they don't turn into sticky candy, and blot. Dust 1. Optional: toss gently with a pinch of cinnamon or a splash of lemon juice. Dry 1. Spread in one layer on fine mesh screens with space between pieces. Dry at 135°F (57°C) for 10-14 hours. They shrink to about a third of their size and are done when they feel like dense gummy drops with no wet juice inside when squeezed. EQUIPMENT - Colander - Dehydrator with fine mesh screens STORAGE Cool, then seal in bags. Chewy fruit holds more moisture than crisp chips: keep them cool and eat within a few weeks, or freeze.
